2010 NFL Draft Prospect Scouting Report:
Joe Haden, CB, Florida
Haden perhaps did not get as much recognition as he deserves as part of a Florida Gator team that has been loaded with stars ever since he stepped on campus in 2007. That said, Haden was a major contributor to the Gators' 2008 National Championship run and he really made a name for himself in 2009. The cornerback started all 14 games last season (just as he did as a sophomore) and he finished tied for third on the team with 68 total tackles (including five for loss). Haden also led Florida with four interceptions, forced two fumbles, had three sacks, and broke up 10 passes. Thus it came as no surprise that Haden joined the mass exodus out of Gainesville and put his name in the upcoming NFL Draft. Although he left after three seasons, Haden still has plenty of experience. He even started 12 games as a freshman, missing one game (Florida State) due to a minor ankle injury. Haden's offseason got a whole lot better after a poor start. He underwhelmed at the NFL combine with a disappointing time in the 40-yard-dash, but he rebounded at Florida's pro day in mid-March. Haden ran a 4.39 in the 40 to all but clinch a spot in the Top 10 of the draft. With that kind of speed, Haden appears to have all the makings of a shutdown corner at the next level. The only minor--very minor--drawback regarding Haden is that he does not have ideal size at 5'11' and 190 pounds. Still, those measurements are more than adequate (especially since he makes up for it with speed and physical fearlessness). In the wake of his pro day, Haden will be the first cornerback off the board in April's draft and he could go as high as No. 6 or 7.
