2010 NFL Draft Prospect Scouting Report:

Thomas Austin, OG, Clemson

It has been a long time coming for Thomas Austin and his NFL dreams. He was a highly touted high school recruit who redshirted in 2005 and was even named the scout team player offensive player of the year by the Clemson coaches. He spent his freshman campaign coming in off the bench, but by the time he was a sophomore, Austin was a mainstay in the Tigers' offensive line. Austin has garnered a multitude of preseason and postseason awards during the 2008 and 2009 campaigns. Austin, a 6-4, 310 pound guard certainly has the size and experience to make an impact in the NFL. He even has a little room to put on a few more pounds if necessary, but it is his quick feet that make him one of the best guard prospects in the nation. He will use that speed to pull for outside blocks for running back C.J. Spiller, but he also has enough strength to simply push the opposition back. Austin should be one of the top three or four guards taken in the draft and that should put him in the second or third round range. However, his ability to also play center could boost his stock quite a bit. On a team that has had so many potential offensive stars over the last couple of years, it might be Austin who sees his name go off the board earlier than any of the others.
