2010 NFL Draft Prospect Scouting Report:

Chris McGaha, WR, Arizona State

A two year, fulltime starter for the Sun Devils, McGaha began his rise to the top of the list of top PAC 10 wide receivers in 2007 when as a sophomore he posted a 61 reception campaign good for 830 yards (13.6 ypc) and one TD. He was slowed by a nagging toe injury last year, but still managed to catch 35 balls (14.3) for 501 and a score. The thing about McGaha that immediately stands out is his ability to snatch the ball out of the air, with his big, soft hands. He adjusts well to bad passes, and is able to catch passes over his shoulder. McGaha has adequate size and strength to drive cornerbacks off the line, and he also works hard to get good position on defenders. He does possess better than average speed (4.42) with a good second gear. However, McGaha is not as explosive after the catch and is also not overly elusive in the open field. He lacks great strength, which leads to some trouble against big, physical defensive backs. He also must improve his route running and off the line techniques. McGaha lacks elite height and must refine his running skills, but he has enough speed to be a real threat in a vertical passing game. He has a lot of unrealized potential, which will entice most clubs on Draft Day. That pro potential may have him drafted in the later part of the fourth round.
