2010 NFL Draft Prospect Scouting Report:

J.D. Walton, C, Baylor

J.D. Walton was not the most highly touted recruit coming out of high school, but the 6-3 center had to spend a couple of years on the sidelines before finally suiting up for Baylor. Walton originally went to Arizona State where he redshirted during the 2005 season. In June of 2006 Walton opted to head closer to home and ended up at Baylor. Of course, due to transfer rules, Walton had to spend his freshman season sitting on the sidelines. Once Walton was actually able to play college ball, he certainly wasted no time making an impact. As a sophomore in 2007, Walton immediately stepped into the starting role at the center spot. During that season the Bears' offense gave up a mere 21 sacks, which is pretty good by Baylor standards and Walton shared the team's Best Offensive Lineman honor with future first round selection Jason Smith. In 2008 Walton once again started all 12 games and paved the way for one of the best ground attacks Baylor has seen in a generation. The Bears' offense struggled in 2009, but Walton was still a steady performer. At 6-3 and 305 pounds, he has the size and footwork to be a decent center at the next level. He will not be one of the first centers taken but with a decent senior week Walton could move up into the third or fourth round.
