2010 NFL Draft Prospect Scouting Report:

Jay Ross, DT, East Carolina

After a freshman campaign in which he saw limited action, Jay Ross quickly became a staple of the East Carolina defensive line. During that sophomore campaign the 6-3, 314 pound defensive tackle started 12 games and totaled 38 tackles, 2.0 sacks and 4.5 tackles-for-loss. Those efforts earned him honorable mention accolades in the All-Conference USA team. Ross would once again earn those honors in 2008, despite putting up much better numbers and starting all 14 games. His 5.0 sacks and 9.5 tackles for loss were among the leaders on the team, and he also started to emerge as a quality run stuffer -- totaled 48 tackles on the season. The 2009 season has cemented Ross as a pass rusher and a run stuffer. Through 11 games, he has tallied 1.5 sacks and 3.0 tackles for loss. While those numbers are down a little, Ross is still a quality and versatile player who will do whatever his team needs him to do. In fact, Ross even has an interception under his belt in 2009. Part of the lack of production in 2009 can be attributed to a nagging leg injury that he played through during most of the 2008 campaign. He sat out in the spring of 2009 and that may have set him back a little bit.
