2010 NFL Draft Prospect Scouting Report:

Josh McNeil, C, Tennessee

Once a highly-touted NFL prospect, injuries seemed to have doomed McNeil's football career. Despite his physical problems, McNeil was one of the most experienced players in college football heading into the 2009 season. He redshirted for Tennessee in 2005, then played in 12 games -- starting nine -- as a sophomore. From 2007 to 2008, the offensive tackle started all 35 games in Knoxville. He was an All-SEC Honorable Mention performer as a sophomore and was rated highly among NFL draft experts. McNeil's most recent knee injury, however, could have been the last straw. He struggled through preseason practice and decided to have surgery just prior to the first game of the season. McNeil still had hopes of returning, but it was not to be. "There's a good chance Josh won't be playing for us, and probably won't play football ever again, unfortunately," Volunteer coach Lane Kiffin said in early September. McNeil's knees were so bad that Kiffin even said further MRIs would be "useless," although Kiffin can rarely be taken for his word. At 6'4' and 280 pounds (after having had some weight issues as well), he had a ton of potential to become a solid NFL player. At this point, however, the future is dim. McNeil obviously won't be drafted and he would be lucky to sign on as an undrafted free agent.
