2010 NFL Draft Prospect Scouting Report:

Jack Corcoran, FB, Rutgers

Fullbacks are a dying breed in college football, but Rutgers has a good one in Jack Corcoran. The 6-1, 230 pound bruiser has been an important (albeit unheralded) player for the Scarlet Knights for four years. During that span you can be sure that Corcoran was be on the field in short yardage and goal line situations. As a freshman in 2006, he carried the ball four times for 30 yards. In 2007 he got involved in the passing game and caught five passes for 34 yards. By 2008 Corcoran was running and receiving the ball. He carried the ball three times for 11 yards and caught 19 passes for 176 yards and two touchdowns. Corcoran has only caught a couple of passes through seven games in 2009, but one of those did got for a touchdown. However, Corcoran is not about rushing and receiving yards. He is about blocking for the ground game and protecting the quarterback. The Scarlet Knights have had some great rushers that Corcoran has paved the way for, most notably Ray Rice in 2007 who rushed for over 2,000 yards. No fullback is going to get drafted very high, but Corcoran could be among the top fullbacks taken if he tests well for scouts prior to the draft. 2/21 Update: Corcoran is one of the better pure fullbacks out there. His speed will separate him from some of the other players in this class, but that will not be enough to get him drafted. For a team looking for a real fullback instead of a converted tight end, Corcoran is not a bad option; though that option can come after the draft, not during it.

Prediction: Undrafted

Corcoran will be brought into a camp, and be eventually cut by, a team that uses a traditional fullback.
