2010 NFL Draft Prospect Scouting Report:
Jeffrey Fitzgerald, DE, Kansas State
Jeffrey Fitzgerald only spent one season at Kansas State, but he was a well established defensive lineman long before he arrived in Manhattan. The 6-4, 280 pounder spent three years at Virginia. After redshirting in 2005, Fitzgerald had a superb campaign for the Cavaliers as a freshman. He started all 12 games and averaged 5.3 tackles per contest, ranking tops in the nation for a freshman lineman. Though, Fitzgerald was not just a pure run stuffer, he also led the team with 6.0 sacks and 12.0 tackles-for-loss. Fitzgerald even picked off a couple of passes. His superb freshman campaign earned Fitzgerald plenty of all-freshman national honors. Fitzgerald did not have a sophomore slump either while he was at Virginia. During his sophomore campaign, he tallied 73 tackles, 11.5 tackles-for-loss and 7.0 sacks; yet again he showed his versatility and intercepted two passes as well. Despite the success at Virginia, Fitzgerald sat out the 2008 season and transferred to Kansas State. Fitzgerald proved that he can play anywhere and be successful. During the 2009 season his tackle numbers were a little down at Kansas State, but he still did a superb job getting into the backfield and led the Wildcats with 10.0 tackles-for-loss and 7.0 sacks.
