Colin Peek, TE, Alabama

Peek has had a sporadic career starting in 2005 at Georgia Tech. The tight end played sparingly in eight games as a true freshman for the Yellow Jackets and then redshirted in 2006. He enjoyed a solid season in 2007, catching 25 passes for 248 yards and one touchdown, but transferred to Alabama following the year. After sitting out again in 2008 (he had already used up his one redshirt), Peek returned for an impressive, National Championship-winning senior campaign with the Crimson Tide. He hauled in 26 passes for 313 yards and three scores, including a highlight TD grab in the SEC Championship victory over Florida. At 6'6' and 255 pounds, Peek is far more valuable in the blocking game than he is as a pass-catcher. An excellent blocker, Peek was an integral part of Alabama's brutal rushing attack, which featured Heisman Trophy winner Mark Ingram. Although he is a serviceable receiving option, Peek has limited athleticism and he runs a pedestrian 4.7 to 4.8 in the 40-yard dash. "Blocking is just are you willing to get your nose in the dirt," Peek explained. "Are you tough enough? Are you willing to throw your body in there? I always get this question: Can you block the point? I want to be like, 'I was the point blocker for all of our runs this season, and the guy who ran behind me won a Heisman, so I hope I can block.'" With that kind of attitude and the game to back it up, Peek should go off the board in the third or fourth round of the upcoming draft.
