2010 NFL Draft Prospect Scouting Report:
person

Dedrick Epps, TE, Miami

Dedrick Epps has everything a tight end should have. At 6-4 and 253 pounds he is certainly big, but he is deceptively fast as well. He can block and he can catch passes. Epps barely saw any playing time as a freshman, but he saw quite a bit of action as a sophomore, playing at tight end, H-back and fullback. However, it was not until the 2008 campaign when Epps turned into a more consistent receiving threat. He only caught 22 passes, but that ranked third on the team and his 33.8 yards per game ranked first. Epps has missed a few games during his senior season, but he is still an important part of the Hurricanes' passing offense and has 13 receptions for 166 yards and two touchdowns in just six games. Epps will not be the fastest tight end or the best pass catching tight end or even the best blocking tight end in this class, but there is nothing that he does poorly. The fact that there is nothing he does that great either will be a concern for some teams, but he is certainly a well balanced tight end who can work his way up from the middle rounds with a good showing at the combine. 2/1 Update: Epps is still waiting for his opportunity to show his stuff. Until then he is a mid-to-late round selection at best. Epps ended his senior season by catching three touchdown passes in nine games and could turn into a decent red zone tight end who has the size to block and the catching ability to leak out into the corner of the end zone to make the catch. However, that will not be enough to get him selected in the first five rounds.
