A versatile player, Olsen has played all along the Irish offensive line during the last two years. He is a redshirt senior who has started since his freshman year in 2006. Olsen played in 11 (started 6) games at right guard in 2007. and was promoted to full time starter prior to his junior campaign. He played both guard and tackle positions without distinguishing himself during Notre Dame's miserable 2008 season. Similar in make-up to former Fighting Irish standout center John Sullivan. Good size and strength. Is a smart and hard worker who enjoys playing the position. Good straight line blocker who uses his hands well. Bends his knees well and can slide with relative ease. Consistently locks up linebackers at the second level. Plays with good leverage. He is a limited athlete who lacks explosiveness and burst. Although he has played outside, his limited range and agility make him one dimensional. Doesn't move well in traffic. Gets jammed too easy. Needs more upper body strength. In a weak center class, Olsen rates a middle of the pack prospect. He does show good intangibles and some athletic ability, but overall his talent level is average. In time Olsen could develop into a solid backup. He is a fifth round pick at best.
