2010 NFL Draft Prospect Scouting Report:

Mike Kafka, QB, Northwestern

Mike Kafka had a very productive year for the Wildcats. During his first three seasons, Kafka played in 17 games totaling 835 yards passing, 3 touchdowns, 8 interceptions, 592 yards rushing, and 3 rushing touchdowns. He took his game to a new level in 2010, tallying 3430 yards passing, 16 touchdowns, 12 interceptions, and completing 64.8 percent of his passes. Kafka also added 295 yards on the ground and ran for 8 touchdowns. Kafka has some issues that scouts will want to address before the 2010 draft. He plays in a spread offense, so scouts will need to see him adjust to taking snaps under center. His arm strength is questionable, so how he throws the deep routes at the combine will go a long way in determining his draft stock. One thing Kafka does have going for him is his accuracy. He throws an accurate, catchable ball. The fact that he went to Northwestern should say a lot for his intelligence, which is key for quarterbacks in the NFL. Kafka is a late round pick, or could possibly go undrafted in 2010. Mike Kafka looked excellent at the East-West Shrine Game. It took some time for him to adjust to being under center, but his footwork looked good by the end of the week. He led the East team on a game winning drive, and finished the game 18 of 27 passing for 150 yards and a touchdown. He has worked his way into sixth round consideration, and could go higher if he performs well at the Combine.

Prediction: 5th Round

Kafka is a sleeper this year. he's a gutsy player with an above average arm and excellent mobility. He reminds me somewhat of Jeff Garcia. Has the value of a developmental third rounder.
