2010 NFL Draft Prospect Scouting Report:

Dane Robinson, DT, Buffalo

Dane Robinson may not be a household name even to those who follow the Mid-American Conference closely, but the 6'2 defensive tackle is one of those linemen who rarely put up big numbers but is always a key to the team's success. As a redshirt freshman in 2006, Robinson made his first career start against Auburn. He finished his freshman campaign with 13 tackles, four tackles-for-loss and two sacks -- one of which came against Matt Ryan. For the most part Robinson stayed in the starting lineup for the next three years, but never put up big numbers. What makes Robinson an intriguing prospect is his versatility. At Buffalo he spent most of his time at the tackle spot, but he was moved to defensive end on occasion and performed admirably. The concern is he is only 270 pounds. That will not be good for his draft status, but it is quite impressive that Robinson has been able to take on offensive lineman despite giving up, in many cases, 50 pounds. A year or two on an NFL workout schedule would do wonders for Robinson since he certainly has the room to add some weight and strength. If he can do that without losing his lateral quickness, Robinson could find his way onto an NFL roster. He may not be ready for that quite yet and it is unlikely that he will get drafted in April, but he deserves a chance to show an NFL team that he is a hardworking and versatile player who plays smart football. Robinson's technique is solid, but his measurables just are not up to NFL standards and his lack of collegiate production does not help his cause. Yet, once he is on the field, Robinson makes his team better and if he can do that at the next level like he did with the Bulls, he could be making a living playing football.
