Curtis Brown Scouting Report

2011 NFL Draft Prospect Scouting Report:
Curtis Brown, CB, Texas
The opposition has learned to throw away from Brown so his numbers in 2010 have not been as great as those in 2009. However, he did return an interception for 74 yards and a score and is still a major threat to break a big play at any given moment. On top of that he only has 14 tackles, but he has broken up four passes and defended five others, so he is doing his job in coverage situations.
Brown's speed and athleticism will make him a very attractive cornerback to the NFL. If he continues to put up good numbers and performs as well at the NFL Combine as he is expected, Brown could sneak into the first round and be the third or fourth best corner in this class.
1/17 Update: The lack of success by Texas and the disappointing play of the secondary has not helped Brown as he prepares for the NFL Draft. What was supposed to be a very good Texas defense pretty much collapsed by the end of the year and that does not bode well for any Longhorn player. However, Brown is still a good looking cornerback and has all the tools to be a fine player at the next level. If he can perform well in workouts, Brown should not slip past the second round.
3/25 Update: Brown had a good showing at the NFL combine. As expected, he performed very well in the workouts. More importantly, Brown looked very fluid during his position drills. That was the bigger concern for Brown heading into the combine and he pretty much proved to everybody that he is a football player, not just an athlete. A few other corners had some good performances as well and moved their stock up into the first round. Meanwhile, Brown is solidly in the second round.
