2011 NFL Draft Prospect Scouting Report:

Cortez Allen, CB, Citadel

Cortez Allen's collegiate football career got off to a slow start. He only played one year of high school football so the expectations were low when Allen suited up for The Citadel. As a freshman in 2006 Allen only saw action in four games. In 2007 Allen redshirted due to an injury. That time on the sidelines turned out to be a good experience for the inexperienced Allen.

By 2008 Allen was a part-time starter. His inexperience was still an issue, but he had some great outings and showed plenty of potential. That potential came into fruition in 2009. Allen totaled 57 tackles and three interceptions. The Bulldogs opposition started to throw away from Allen in 2010, but he still had a decent campaign, intercepting two passes and leading the team in passes defended and pass breakups.

Allen's combination of size and speed has kept him on the NFL's radar. He is a legitimate 6-1 and ran a 4.50 40-yard-dash at the NFL combine. That is not great speed for a corner, but Allen can run faster than that. Allen still has to work on a few things, like learning to use his height to his advantage and handling deep balls since he rarely saw them in college, but he tremendous potential and should be a fourth round draft pick.
