2011 NFL Draft Prospect Scouting Report:
Brandon Hogan, CB, West Virginia
Hogan took his pass catching ability to the Mountaineers' secondary during his sophomore campaign and has been a starting cornerback pretty much ever since. As a sophomore Hogan was a surprisingly good tackler and ranked sixth on the team in that department. Hogan kept up his impressive numbers as a junior in 2009 and was an All-Big East first-team selection by the coaches for his efforts; that year he tallied 74 tackles, 11 pass breakups and 12 passes defended. Hogan has been less involved during his senior season (partially due to a one game suspension following a DUI).
Hogan's stock is falling due to his off-field issues. Those may not end up being a big deal, but he is likely crossed out on some NFL teams' draft lists and Hogan has to talk his way back on.
2/10 Update: Hogan's lack of production during his senior season is another concern. He only tallied 37 tackles in 11 games. He did manage to intercept three passes and break up six, but he never really reached the same level that he did in 2009. Yet, Hogan is a gifted athlete and he should grade out quite well during the NFL Combine and that will keep his draft stock around the third round.
