2011 NFL Draft Prospect Scouting Report:

Nate Williams, SS, Washington

Nate Williams was one of a few true freshmen to see playing time at Washington in 2007. Williams won the team's Freshman Award for a defensive player and even earned a start when the Huskies opened up with five defensive backs against Hawaii. Williams ended up tallying 32 tackles that season. As a sophomore, that number shot up to 76 and he picked off his first career pass.

Williams' numbers dipped in 2009, but so far he is having a superb senior season in 2010. Through seven games he has already totaled 62 tackles, 5.0 tackles-for-loss and 2.0 sacks. Williams is not just a pass coverage safety anymore and he can come up and make big plays in the backfield. Perhaps his best asset is his speed and quickness. He can run a 4.5 40, but he plays faster than that due to his instincts.

Williams has played a lot of safety, but he may be a better outside linebacker in the NFL. He is a little undersized to be a top safety prospect, however that depends more on the system of the NFL team. He can certainly play safety for some teams, but he could be a fine linebacker who can get to the quarterback or drop back in coverage.
