2011 NFL Draft Prospect Scouting Report:

Brooks Reed, DE, Arizona

Arguably no player got more out of the NFL combine than Arizona's Brooks Reed. He ran an impressive 4.65 second 40-yard dash and showed a superb burst of speed. Reed's road to the NFL has been a long one. Back in 2007, after redshirting in 2006, Reed barely saw any playing time for the Wildcats. By 2008 he was an All-Pac-10 honorable mention honoree and led Arizona in sacks and added 9.5 tackles-for-loss.

Reed started off strong again as an upperclassman in 2009, but missed some time with an ankle injury. He only missed a few games, but his numbers took a hit. Reed started getting into the backfield more consistently as a senior. On the year he tallied a career high 47 tackles, including 10.0 tackles-for-loss and 6.0 sacks.

Reed's impressive showing at the NFL combine has him quickly moving up draft boards. Widely considered a mid-round selection previously, Reed is now a pretty safe second round pick. At the worst, due to the depth at the end and rush linebacker position, Reed could fall to the third round. Reed was labeled as a tweener and nobody really knew if he was a defensive end in a 4-3 or an outside linebacker in a 3-4. He proved at the combine that he could be very successful at either position.
