2011 NFL Draft Prospect Scouting Report:

Virgil Green, TE, Nevada

Virgil Green had to pay his dues at Nevada, but he has turned into the best tight end in the Western Athletic Conference. The 6-5 senior spent his freshman campaign mostly on special teams, but blossomed as a sophomore. During that season he earned eight starts and caught 14 passes for 164 yards and a touchdown. Green turned into a superb red zone target during his junior season. Of his 23 catches, five of them went for touchdowns. At 6-5 and 240 pounds, it is no wonder quarterback Colin Kaepernick often looked his way in the end zone.

Green opened up his senior campaign by catching seven passes for 144 yards and two scores against Eastern Washington. However, his numbers have become more reasonable since the season opener and through eight games he has just reached the end zone one more time.

Green is one of the more athletic tight ends in this class. He is relatively quick and surprisingly nimble. That helps in both pass catching and blocking and Green can do both relatively well. Green will not be one of the top tight ends in this class, but he is a decent player with some potential. He will need to work his way up the draft boards throughout the rest of the season and during senior week if he hopes to be more than a late round selection.
