2011 NFL Draft Prospect Scouting Report:

Kevin Kowalski, C, Toledo

For the most part, Toledo's offensive line has grown up together. They have suffered through some growing pains, but the Rockets finally got into a bowl game this year. Kevin Kowalski has played a vital role in the development of the offense, but the 6-4 Macedonia, Ohio native has been playing solid football since his freshman year. At the time Kowalski was a guard and he stepped into a starting role just three games into the season. That year the line did a superb job, but the Rockets failed to post a winning record. The following year Kowalski started all 12 games at the right guard spot and again ranked among the conference leaders in sacks allowed.

Heading into the 2009 campaign Kowalski made the move to center where he started all 12 games. The Rockets offense began to flourish behind the experienced offensive line and Kowalski made a smooth transition to center. In 2010 the Toledo offensive line was expected to lead the team to the postseason and they did just that, again under Kowalski's leadership. The Rockets will face off against Florida International in the Little Caesar's Pizza Bowl, their first bowl appearance since 2005, after finishing with an impressive 7-1 conference record.

Kowalski is in a relatively large group of centers who are projected to go in the middle rounds. His experience and ability to move to guard if necessary is a plus, but he will need to have some solid workouts heading into the draft if he wants to be one of the first three or four centers taken in the draft.
