2011 NFL Draft Prospect Scouting Report:
D.J. Young, OT, Michigan State
Young has good height and size for the position. He benefits from having average to good fundamentals and is a better pass blocker than run blocker. He has long arms and does a good job at getting his hands on defenders.
In order to build a career in the NFL, he'll need to improve his strength and learn the finer points of blocking. He began his career at Bowling Green so he only has two years of experience in the Big Ten. He is best suited at right tackle but needs more experience and add some versatility to his skill-set. If he's able to play with more tenacity and brute force, his game could really take off.
Improved balance and footwork are two areas of concern, but teams know this upfront. It isn't as though a team will draft him thinking he can contribute right away.
Young projects as a fifth to sixth round selection in the 2011 NFL Draft.
