2011 NFL Draft Prospect Scouting Report:

Stevan Ridley, RB, LSU

Ridley exploded onto the college football scene in 2010 with LSU. In his first two seasons in Baton Rouge, he totaled just 57 carries for 272 yards and four touchdowns. Emerging as the Tigers' go to running back as a junior, though, Ridley rushed 249 times for 1147 yards and 15 scores. Those numbers convinced him to leave early for the 2011 NFL Draft.

Ridley stands at just short of 6'0'' and weighs in right around 230 pounds. He was clocked in the high 4.6s and low 4.7s in the 40-yard dash during LSU's pro day. Obviously he is no kind of speed demon in the backfield and he struggles to get around the end, but he is a load to bring down. Ridley has good vision and can break tackles, but he lacks big-play explosiveness. In fact, he had only one touch that went for more than 30 yards in his entire college career.

While he probably does not have the talent to be an every-down back at the next level, Ridley can have an impact especially considering that almost all NFL teams use some sort of two-back system at this point in time. He could become an effective goal-line option, and that makes him a valuable commodity coveted by at least a few teams on draft day. Look for Ridley to come off the board during the third or fourth round.
