2011 NFL Draft Prospect Scouting Report:

Kevin Rutland, CB, Missouri

Kevin Rutland has been quietly hanging around waiting for NFL scouts to take notice of him. They finally did at Missouri's pro day. Long before then, Rutland was struggling to make an impact for the Tigers. He spent most of his time as an underclassman on special teams and rarely made an appearance in the secondary.

By his junior campaign Rutland was ready to make the jump into a starting role and he surprised just about everybody. During that season he started all 13 games and totaled 47 tackles and led the team with two interceptions. In 2010 Rutland was the experienced cornerback on Missouri's squad and took over a leadership role. He picked off three passes and was used most often in blitz packages and reached the quarterback four times.

Rutland looks like a fine NFL player. He is 6-0, lean and has very long arms. He has more than enough speed to keep up with just about anybody in the NFL, and teams finally noticed that after he ran a 4.46 at Missouri's pro day. However, he is labeled a tweener and most teams do not know if he should be a cornerback or a free safety in the NFL. Either way, his pro day performance could have catapulted him from a potential undrafted free agent into the fourth round.
