2012 NFL Draft Prospect Scouting Report:

Trenton Robinson, FS, Michigan State

A team captain in his senior year, Robinson is an undersized safety prospect from Michigan State. Although he does have great speed, he may need to find a home as a nickel/dime cornerback since today's NFL safeties need to be able to cover tight ends and provide run support more often than not.

Robinson has a balanced game that relies heavily on quickness and speed. He does a good job recognizing routes and making breaks on the football while it travels in the air. He doesn't have great hands, but he does play like a ball hawk at times. Robinson will likely struggle if one-on-one during a 50/50 ball due to a lack of height and short arms. Longer receivers will give him problems.

When tackling, he is more than willing. Plays best when running downhill right at the action. Needs to get better at finding his lane and not getting overly aggressive.

In coverage, he's experienced at covering the slot. He can cover both the deep half with no issues. Hips are a little tight and lacks the footwork to keep his man close when in transition. Allows separation too often.

Robinson will need to contribute on special teams to keep a spot on a 52-man roster. In time, he could develop into a nickel/dime corner.
