2012 NFL Draft Prospect Scouting Report:

Nicolas Jean-Baptiste, DT, Baylor

Nicolas Jean-Baptiste (NJB) is a former walk-on with the Baylor Bears and a second-team All-Big 12 nose tackle prospect. He has great girth and would certainly occupy space at the next level. Jean-Baptiste remains a very raw prospect that has fundamental concerns that should relegate him to becoming an undrafted free agent.

NJB doesn't play up to his size. Despite his weight and power, he struggles against double teams due to poor form. If he can manage to break the block, he floats toward the ball well in tight space. Probably at his best as a one-gap tackle who can play downhill. When asked to move laterally, he can be pushed off his line.

If taught to keep a better base through better footwork and a lower center of gravity, there is some intriguing potential for NJB. He lacks the explosion to be a difference maker and struggles to effectively use his weight and strength. A coach that can instill a stronger work ethic, that teaches him what a strong motor can do for an athlete of his size, he could be a starter. Unfortunately that is not the case right now.
