2013 NFL Draft Prospect Scouting Report:

Chase Thomas, OLB, Stanford

Stanford University outside linebacker Chase Thomas is a solid prospect that displays above-average instincts that can quickly diagnose the run game. Limited athleticism will likely push him as a late Day 2 pick in the 2013 NFL Draft.

Listed height (6'4") and speed (4.95 40-yard dash) are both varied depending on where you find the information. Some have him as shorter and slower, so Thomas will need to show and prove during the NFL combine.

Thomas finished his senior season with 7.5 sacks and 64 total tackles. He has some position flexibility and projects as either a strong-side 4-3 LB or 3-4 LB. Depending on how teams see his future it will greatly affect his draft position. 4-3 OLBs have a very low draft priority in most years.

His best attributes are his nose for the football and good read/react to developing plays. He can seal the edge and play contain really well. Lacks the size to really take on blockers and tries his best to extend his arms and turn the corner when pass rushing. Experience in coverage is limited and can hold down most short zones. Has a long way to go in man coverage, especially if up against an athletic tight end.

Thomas projects as a fourth round pick in the 2013 NFL Draft.
