2007 NFL Draft Prospect Scouting Report:
Drew Tate, QB, Iowa
Tate was a solid college quarterback at Iowa, but in all likelihood, he's nothing more than that. Actually Tate's senior campaign as the Hawkeyes' leader was a disappointment. He put up great numbers in 2004 and 2005, but Tate slipped in all facets of the game last year. His completion percentage dipped, his TD-to-interception ratio plummeted, and he missed two games due to injury. As one would expect from all that, the Hawkeyes struggled immensely as a team. Looking at Tate's physical makeup, scouts do not anticipate things turning around for him at the next level. Tate stands just 6-0 (and that could be generous) and 191 pounds. If he gets playing time in the NFL, he will have a very difficult time seeing the field and he is not strong enough to shed defenders. Tate, although mildly elusive, is not quick enough to escape rushers or make them miss consistently. He is a smart quarterback, makes good decisions with the ball, and was a great leader at Iowa, but that won't be close to enough in the NFL. It's looking like Tate will become an undrafted free agent.
