2007 NFL Draft Prospect Scouting Report:
Reggie Ball, QB, Georgia Tech
Ball was a four-year starter at quarterback for the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets, but he will attempt to make it to the next level as a wide receiver. There's a reason why Ball will not stay at the quarterback position. First and foremost, he is only 6-feet tall, and what he lacks in height, he does not make up in accuracy. Ball showed flashes of brilliance at Georgia Tech, but he was one of the most inconsistent quarterbacks in the game. He often found himself embattled in awful streaks of consecutive incomplete passes, and that's hard to do with Calvin Johnson lined up at receiver. Ball's attempt to become the next Antwaan Randle El will not be easy. He ran just a 4.80 in the 40-yard dash at the NFL Combine. Consider his combination of mediocre size and speed, along with his relative inexperience at the position, and it's clear that Ball is a long way away from making an impact as a wide receiver. Ball is a great athlete and he often showed an uncanny ability to elude defenders at the college level, so perhaps his 40 time will improve in future workouts. For now, however, it would be a surprise if Ball is drafted at all in April.
