Malcolm Brown, RB, Texas

Coming out of high school, Brown was a big time recruit who played at one of the best high school programs in Texas' largest classification. But the stud recruit status never really translated at the collegiate level. Brown averaged 4.25 yards per carry in 630 collegiate carries and averaged only 3.9 yards per carry in his senior year. In Brown's defense, the Longhorns have been seriously lacking at the quarterback position while he has been in Austin. The passing game certainly didn't take pressure of the Texas backs. But it must also be noted that Brown never really distinguished himself as the lead back while at UT.

Scouting reports seem to agree that Brown has the size to be a good north-south runner, but there's some serious questions about his ability to move laterally and get outside. The good news is that he may be able to do things well when he's not carrying the ball. Scouts like his blocking ability and adeptness at picking up blitzers. He's also a decent pass catcher, though that wasn't a skill utilized much at Texas. The ability to do the little things may ultimately be what gets him a spot somewhere as a backup.
