2015 Outlook: Bust (overvalued)

Last updated on Aug-20-2015 by Shawn Childs

When I look at Bell's stats from 2014, I wonder if he is part of the solution or part of the problem. The Lions gave him 223 carries last year, which led to only 3.9 YPC. He matched that average in 2013. Over the past three years, Joique has registered 139 catches while gaining 9.7 yards per catch. He'll enter 2015 with this backfield's best resume, solid pass-catching skills and possible value at the goal line, but Bell is coming off minor surgeries on both knees and an Achilles tendon. His lack of health this spring may leave him out of shape once training camp beings. His current price point is based on him getting 200-plus touches and having value in the passing game and at the goal line (ADP of 47 as the 18th RB taken). But Joique he has more downside than upside if Ameer proves to be the real deal. I don't think it makes sense to invest in a 29-year-old back with low upside and injury issues. Bell is on my 'avoid' list as I'm looking for a difference maker with upside to be my RB2.

Latest Update

Sep-01-15 Lions RB Joique Bell is still the RB1 in Detroit

Detroit Lions running back Joique Bell was activated off the PUP list and immediately began taking reps with the first team. Despite the emergence of rookies Ameer Abdullah and Zach Zenner, Bell is still the primary ball carrier in Detroit. He says he feels much better than he expected. "I did everything with the ones," Bell said. "I was limited, as far as reps, but I did everything. Everything from team blitz to regular team … Right now, I've exceeded my expectations. So it feels good. ... I didn't know exactly where I'd be right now, but I didn't think I'd be this far ahead. I definitely feel good right now … My mind won't let my body fail."

Fantasy Analysis:

Here at SCOUT Fantasy, we have been consistent saying that Bell is the back to own when healthy. This only further confirms it. Even Abdullah admitted it saying, "He's the guy. He's the guy who has done it before, you know? We're all chasing him." Bell is a steal being drafted as the RB31. Be sure to snag him if he falls to you. His ADP is on the rise though.
