2015 Outlook: Gamble (high risk)

FANTASY PROFILE / STATS & MORE

Cruz's 2014 season ended abruptly in Week 6 when he tore the patellar tendon in his right knee. The early reports suggest Victor will be ready for Week 1, but I have a tough time believing he will play at a high level early in the year. His value faded over the final 10 games of 2013 when he caught 47 passes for 523 yards and no TDs on 79 targets. Cruz topped 100 yards in two of his six games last season but amassed just 12 catches and 122 yards in the four others. If/when he returns, Victor will need to earn his way up the pecking order in this passing game. As good as his resume looks, Cruz may be a trap for those who invest. His early ADP is 91 overall, making him the 36th WR off the board. I see him as nothing more than a flier with more risk than reward.

New York Giants WR Victor Cruz

Latest Update

Aug-27-15 Giants WR Victor Cruz will not play Saturday

New York Giants wide receiver Victor Cruz will sit out the team's third preseason game on Saturday. He has been recovering from a torn patellar tendon but has been fully cleared and declared himself 100 percent. Nonetheless, the Giants are playing it safe with Cruz. He's also dealing with a minor calf issue as well. Head coach Tom Coughlin announced Cruz will not be active.

Fantasy Analysis:

Cruz is being extremely overvalued. It's almost as if people have forgotten that his production has been declining and he's coming off of a severe knee injury. Apparently the fact that he's playing with Odell Beckham Jr is going to make him viable WR3 all of a sudden. Which he wasn't before getting injured last season. Nonetheless, the bigger concern is the injury. Players just don't bounce back from this patellar tendon injury. Just because a teammate says he looks fast doesn't mean his knee will hold up and it's behind him. He's being drafted as the WR34. This is way too high. His teammate Rueben Randle is a better option and is going undrafted.

3.10 Draft Sharks - Cruz's TD total last year was a fluke. He scored just 4 times after totaling 19 TDs across the previous 2 seasons. I think that jumps back up to 7-9 in 2014. I like Cruz's fit in new OC Ben McAdoo's offense.
