2014 Outlook: Do Not Draft
Ryan Mallett will once again be the back up to Tom Brady; once again the hope in New England will be that Mallett doesn't have to see the field. Since being drafted in 2011, Mallett only has four career passes, so don't expect much from him. He is nothing more than a back up. Even if Brady went down, there is no guarantee that he would produce. Not worth drafting.Last updated on Jun-23-2014 by Daniel Kalles
The Texans opened up OTAs on Wednesday and the quarterback competition was in full swing. Both Brian Hoyer and Ryan Mallett split the first-team reps. Hoyer started with the first team and then Mallett swapped in his place. Mallett said he's "just ready to go". Hoyer is no stranger to quarterback competitions, he's been in one pretty much every year of his career, whether it be for a starting or backup job. "I've been through it before," Hoyer said. "I'm not going to let it affect me and I'll just be myself and really focus on the things that I can control."Fantasy Analysis:
This competition really could go either way. I'm not going to pretend like I know who has the upper hand. What I will say is I believe Mallett has more fantasy upside should he win the job. Both guys are former Tom Brady backups and were forced to sit and watch for a good amount of time. I just think with Hoyer we've seen what he has. Mallett has more room to develop, we really haven't seen much of him. Either way, the Texans have some really dangerous weapons, highlighted by DeAndre Hopkins and Arian Foster.
