2015 Outlook: Bust (overvalued)

Last updated on Aug-20-2015 by Shawn Childs

Shorts has been on a negative decline over the past two years due to his struggles with injuries. Cecil battled a hamstring issue and a shoulder injury in 2014, which were preceded by a couple of concussions in 2013. He has missed at least two games in each of his first four seasons. He has offered some big-play ability throughout his career while catching barely 50 percent of his targets. Last year, he hauled in only 53 of 110 targets (48.2 percent) and posted a career-low 10.5 yards per catch. He produced two 100-yard performances and saw at least 10 targets in five contests. Cecil has scored just four times over the past two seasons. In a way, he'll assume the Hopkins role in the Texans' offense as DeAndre becomes their No. 1 WR. He's a WR4 for 2015 with some upside if he can improve his YPC average and touchdown production. Shorts is a boom-or-bust player, but one who should see more opportunity this year if he stays healthy. I see 65 catches for 800 yards with a maximum of five TDs.

Latest Update

Oct-08-15 Texans WR Jaelen Strong is 'ready to go out there' Thursday night

Houston Texans wide receiver Jaelen Strong is expected to see the first action of his career tonight with Nate Washington and Cecil Shorts ruled out. Strong was a highly touted rookie, but is yet to be active this season, that is expected to change on Thursday Night Football. He says he is ready for this moment and has been for a long time. "Since the first day, I've been preparing as if I were to play," said Strong. "Stepping in for me will be huge for the team. I've been preparing for this moment. The coaches and veterans have done a great job. I'm ready to go out there and do what I'm coached to do."

Fantasy Analysis:

Strong has to be considered a deep sleeper this week, especially in DFS leagues. Also, if Washington and Shorts miss extended time, he could develop a legitimate role in the offense. He could be a real shot in the arm for a struggling passing attack. We saw a similar situation as this last season with Martavis Bryant being inactive for six weeks, he then exploded on to the Fantasy scene. You should not be starting Strong this week, however, he should definitely be on your radar.
