2015 Outlook: Gamble (high risk)Last updated on Dec-13-2015 by Shawn Childs
Week 14 DFS Update (12/13): Thomas has a TD in three straight games, with 16 catches and 159 yards on 23 targets. In his half season of action he is on a pace for 62 catches, 596 yards and eight TDs. He averages seven targets per game. Last season Thomas had his best game of the year vs. the Colts (7/104/3), with less success in his game in the playoffs (6/53). Indy is 20th in the league in TE Fantasy defense, with three teams scoring over 20 Fantasy points. With Allen Robinson expected to be covered by Vontae Davis, Thomas may be active in the passing game in Week 14. Talented player with scoring ability and a favorable price point.
Week 13 DFS Update (12/5): I wish I saw the Thomas' light in Week 12. He had his second impact game of the year (9/116/1), which was tough to predict. In his previous four games, he had 11 catches, 69 yards and a TD on 26 targets, with a short catch rate (42.3). In his seven games he is averaging 7.3 targets per game. In Week 11, he had five catches for 28 yards and a TD on eight targets against the Titans. Tennessee allows the 23rd-most Fantasy points to TEs, with four teams scoring over 20 Fantasy points. If Allen Hurns doesn't play this week, Thomas should have a bump in targets. Possible follow through with a short price point.
Thomas could be one of the trickiest players to gauge in 2015. He has scored 12 times in each of the past two seasons, but his success was created by a dynamic, Peyton Manning-led offense with deep passing options. In Jacksonville, Thomas should slot in as the second option in the passing game behind Robinson. Julius has missed five games over the past couple of seasons due to ankle and knee pains. Over the first five games of last year, he accumulated 24 catches, 277 yards and nine TDs on 30 targets. His value faded over his final eight games (19 catches, 212 yards and three TDs on 32 targets). The Jags completed 47 passes to their TEs for 547 yards and two scores last season; That should be the floor for Thomas. He will improve this offense, and Bortles will improve with him. I expect a 60-catch campaign with 700-plus yards and a minimum of five touchdowns. That makes him a low-end TE1 in PPRs.
