2016 Outlook: Solid/Safe Pick

Last updated on Aug-04-2016 by Shawn Childs

The development of the wide receiver position led to Thomas having less value than expected in his first season in Jacksonville. Julius missed the first four games of the year due a finger issue that required surgery just before the start of the season. In his 12 games, he caught 46 of his 80 targets for 455 yards and five TDs. Thomas had a weak catch rate (57.5) in comparison to his previous two years in Denver (71.0). He finished with one impact game (9/116/1) and one other game of value (7/78/1). In his six games at home, Thomas had 33 catches for 374 yards and four TDs on 52 targets compared to 13 catches for 81 yards and a TD on 28 targets on the road in six games. His success over 16 games would project to 61 catches for 607 yards and seven TDs on 107 targets. This would qualify as the 9th highest scoring TE in 2015. I expect more growth in his second season with Bortles throwing him the ball. Thomas has the skill set to deliver 65+ catches for 700+ yards and a chance at impact TDs for his position.

2016 Mock Draft Results

Month Position Franchise/Comments
2016 FFToolbox Mock Draft #1
June 12th, 2016
8.09 Doug Moore - He will be the Jaguars number three target behind Allen Robinson and Allen Hurns and could be their primary red-zone target as well.
2016 FFToolbox Mock Draft #2
June 27th, 2016
9.03 Roto Experts - Joe Gallina - I really wanted a piece of what I expect will be an explosive Jaguars offense. If Thomas plays a full 16 games, he should put up some big numbers, and with the way this league is setup, I can start him as a flex every week.
2016 FFToolbox Mock Draft #3
August 10th, 2016
9.02 Draft Sharks - Jared Smola - I have Thomas projected for more PPR points than any of the WRs that were available. He averaged 4.4 catches, 45.1 yards and .57 TDs over last year's final seven games.
