2014 Outlook: Stud (low risk)

Last updated on Jul-15-2014 by Rusty Reeves

Heading into 2014, Jimmy Graham is an island among tight ends. The second tier at the position consists of two men: New England's Rob Gronkowski and Thomas. Thomas was one of three tight ends to catch 10 or more touchdowns. He finished the season with a stat line of 65/788/12, elite for a tight end. With an historic offensive season in their rear-view mirror, the Broncos will look to repeat that production this season. With WR Eric Decker out of town, Thomas will be looked upon to help pick up some of the slack. Since he's such a big target (6-foot-5, 250 lbs.), Thomas is an obvious red zone threat and should eclipse double-digit touchdowns again. After Gronk and Thomas, there is a drop to the next set of TEs, making him a commodity worthy of a third- or fourth-round pick. Our ADP ranks him as the second TE drafted with a 29.82 ADP, about two picks ahead of Gronk.

Latest Update

Nov-21-14 Broncos WR Emmanuel Sanders expected to play Week 12; TE Julius Thomas a game-time decision

It's looking like Broncos QB Peyton Manning will have at least one of his main receiving threats back on Sunday, and possibly two. Wide receiver Emmanuel Sanders returned to practice Friday and is looking like he'll be good to go for the team's Week 12 game versus Miami after recovering from a Week 11 concussion. Tight end Julius Thomas barely practiced this week because of his sprained ankle and is considered a game-time decision by head coach John Fox.

Sanders is well on his way to the first 1,000-yard season of his career after compiling 954 on 67 catches through his first ten games. He also has caught seven touchdowns. Thomas leads the NFL with 12 receiving touchdowns.

Fantasy Analysis:

Getting one of these gentlemen back would be great for Manning. Getting them both would be even better. You're obviously going to use Manning, no matter what. However, against a tough Dolphins defense, he needs his receiving corps to be at full capacity.

If you're a Thomas owner, you need to have a backup plan in place since this game is a late-afternoon kickoff Sunday. Jacob Tamme is an option. Otherwise, you may need to deploy someone that is playing in one of the early games.
