2013 Outlook: Do Not Draft

With rookie Joseph Randle anointed as the No. 2 running back behind DeMarco Murray, the battle is between Tanner and Lance Dunbar for the third and perhaps final RB job. The 5-foot-10, 208-pounder rushed 25 times for an abysmal 2.4 yards per carry. There appears to be no there there with either of these options, but seeing as Murray is a consistent injury risk, the Dallas backups are always worth monitoring. Just a bummer there isn't much reason to get excited if they're called upon.

Latest Update

Dec-20-14 49ers RB Carlos Hyde out, Frank Gore questionable for Saturday night

The San Francisco 49ers will be without rookie running back Carlos Hyde, who has been ruled out with an ankle injury. Frank Gore, who's trying to get clearance to play after suffering a concussion in Week 15, is listed as questionable after getting in a limited practice Friday. If Gore can get cleared by doctors, he's expected to suit up tonight when the 49ers host the Chargers.

Fantasy Analysis:

Gore is a decent flex option this week if he plays. If not, the 49ers' backfield should be avoided in every which way. FB Bruce Miller, RB Alfonso Smith and newly acquired RB Philip Tanner would share the backfield duties should Gore not receive clearance. None of those guys are fantasy-relevant this week.
