2015 Outlook: Deep-league Only

Last updated on Jun-17-2015 by Shawn Childs

This cat has killed Fantasy owners in back-to-back seasons. In his 2012 rookie year, Richardson looked like a workhorse back as he gained 1,317 yards and 12 touchdowns on 318 touches, including 51 receptions. He has caught 62 balls over the past two years, but he has looked extremely pedestrian when asked to run the ball (347 carries for 1,073 yards, 3.1 yards per rush). In his three years at the University of Alabama, Richardson averaged 5.8 yards per rush. Last year, he had some quit in him, and the Colts suspended him for his conduct. A change of scenery could serve him well, but he also needs more motivation. His recent poor showings could be a sign that his career is about to an end at age 24. But he's still so young, and a fresh outlook may lead to much better results than expected. He'll basically be free in drafts. Trent will be worth a flier if reports on him this summer are positive

Latest Update

Aug-03-15 Raiders RB Trent Richardson on the active/NFI list because he showed up overweight

Raiders running back Trent Richardson was placed on the active/NFI list this past week and has not practiced at training camp. This is because he showed up to camp over the weight he was assigned to get down too. His head coach Jack Del Rio spoke on the matter. "Trent is here," Del Rio said. "He came back very close to the weight, which was a pretty ambitious goal to get to. He's down in the low 220s. That's what we asked of him. That's where he was. … He'll have a chance to come out here and show what he's really capable of."

Fantasy Analysis:

The coach was not overly critical but it's beginning to look more and more like T-Rich will not be able to secure a roster a spot in Oakland. Opportunities may be few and far between for Richardson if he doesn't make the 53-man roster. There is no reason to draft him in any league. He's among the least productive backs in the NFL. If he is cut by the Raiders, he will have hit rock bottom. He has about a month to turn this around.
