2015 Outlook: Super Sleeper (high risk/potential)Last updated on Jun-18-2015 by Shawn Childs
Fantasy owners were buying the Green juice in 2014 draft season as many expected Gates to fade off into the sunset. Ladarius barely had a pulse last year (29/226 with no TDs on 25 targets). He battled a hamstring injury early in the year and Green struggled with an ankle injury over the second half of the year. A concussion in early December led to minimal playing time late in the year. Ladarius brings big play ability to the TE position, but he has no fantasy value or opportunity with Gates healthy.
Chargers tight end Ladarius Green is going to be the biggest beneficiary of Antonio Gate's four-game suspension. Green will be given the opportunity to make an impact early on. His head coach Mike McCoy thinks very highly of him and wants to give him the opportunity to earn more playing time. "He's going to have an opportunity early on to do a few more things," Chargers head coach Mike McCoy said. "We think very highly of him. We thought that the first year we got here, not just last year or the year before. Without Antonio for a couple weeks, he's going to have an opportunity to get more playing time. … The system is staying the same, and we're looking forward to seeing him play more."Fantasy Analysis:
Green should be a serviceable tight end at worst for the first four weeks of the season. The real question is, what happens when Gates comes back? It remains to be seen if Green will remain on the field or cast aside. That will most likely depend on how he performs early on. The beginning of the season will be crucial for Green. If he's great, they can't keep him off the field. On the other hand, if he flops, there's no reason to incorporate him in the offense for the remainder of the season.
