2014 Outlook: Stud (low risk)

Last updated on Jul-15-2014 by Rusty Reeves

Ball is looking like a breakout year candidate. On average, he's currently coming off the board as the sixth RB drafted according to our ADP numbers. We have him projected as the No. 8 RB. Ball had some issues hanging onto the ball early last season, losing two fumbles the first three weeks. This drove the Broncos to lean heavily on Knowshon Moreno, who exceeded 1,000 yards and 10 touchdowns (both career bests). With Moreno out of the way, Ball is going to have every opportunity to evolve into an elite fantasy back. In this offense, he should be able to trip and fall into 1,000 yards rushing and 10 TDs. He will likely surpass those numbers easily. Any receptions he can add (he had 20 on 27 targets for 145 yards last season) will only be bonuses for Ball owners. After averaging 4.7 YPC last year and anticipating a workload of 260-plus carries this year, Ball has stud written all over him.

Latest Update

Apr-25-15 Broncos RB C.J. Anderson expects a 'well-balanced offense' this season

C.J. Anderson spoke about how Gary Kubiaks system is a running backs dream. It has brought fame to journeyman back Justin Forsett and undrafted rookie Arian Foster. Now Anderson is excited to get his turn in it in Denver. "It'll be fun," Anderson said. "The fact that the run game is getting so much coverage is a blessing for us, because we still have one of the best quarterbacks to have ever played this game. We have two of the top receivers in this league. If you want to talk about the lonely undrafted free-agent back there at running back or Montee or Ronnie, if you want to worry about us, you're going to get beat through the air. I wouldn't say it's going to be running back heaven. But I do think it's going to be a well-balanced offense."

Fantasy Analysis:

Balanced may be a bit strong but definitely more balanced. My concern for this rushing game is it may turn into a committee with Anderson, Montee Ball and Ronnie Hillman. Nothing kills a backs fantasy value like the dreaded RBBC. I'm tentatively staying away from the Broncos' RBs until I see a clear-cut lead back emerge.
