2014 Outlook: Fantasy HandcuffLast updated on Jun-28-2014 by Jeb Gorham
Knile Davis is one of the few true fantasy handcuffs. Not only is Charles already an obvious example of a back who might need a handcuff after having missed almost all of the 2011 season due to injury, Davis would completely take the reins as the driver of the Chiefs' offensive attack. Davis looks to be fully healed from the fractured leg he sustained in last year's playoffs and must be ready to spell Charles in this 2014 campaign. Davis could easily get more work if KC chooses to rest Charles more often this season. Grab Davis in your draft with confidence if you can afford the roster spot for a handcuff and hope he gets more opportunities.
When doubt is expressed about a player's Sunday status, that doubt usually comes from anonymous sources or beat writers. Rarely do you see the doubt expressed by the player at the heart of the matter. But according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport, that seems to be the case with Jamaal Charles.
Rapoport tweeted this morning that Charles doesn't expect to play against the Dolphins this afternoon. He will test out his injured ankle in pregame warmups, but odds are Knile Davis will get the start and a lot of touches.
Rapoport also says that Charles' injury is more of a bruise than a high ankle sprain, which explains why he was able to return to practice so quickly. However, it's probably best that the Chiefs hold him back today. The season is still young, and they don't need to risk their best player, especially with such a quality backup like Davis available. Davis scored twice and caught six passes in relief of Foster last week. He is a high-end RB2 in all formats. Although this game doesn't kick off until late in the afternoon, this report makes it pretty safe to unleash Davis in your lineups. You can basically lock him into 20-25 touches.
