2016 Outlook: Stud (low risk)

Even with a similar completion rate (58.6) as his rookie season (58.9), Bortles was able to triple his TD production (35 – 11 in 2014 in 14 games) with a nice step forward in yards per pass attempt (7.3 – 6.1 in 2014). Blake had six games with 300+ yards passing and five games with three TDs or more. As great as he played in his second year in the league, Bortles has been sacked 106 times in his 30 games played while tossing 35 passes to the other team. His success would be helped by improved play by his offensive line, but Jacksonville lacks upside talent in front of him in pass blocking. As far as talent in the receiving game, the Jaguars have two strong WRs and an edge at TE while owning potential upside in at WR3 and WR4. There's a lot to like here, but I have a feeling Jacksonville well be a much better team defensively setting up more games when they play from the lead and more rushing attempts. Blake needs to improve his accuracy with a big part of his growth coming with a longer passing window created by better pass blocking. Based on the talent around him on offense, 4500+ passing yards seems well with reach with an excellent chance at 30 or passing TDs. He'll even chip in for some rushing yards (51/310/2 in 2015). Bortles has a chance to repeat as a top five QB in 2016.

2016 FFToolbox Mock Draft #1
June 12th, 2016
8.02 Jerry Colvin - Well, at some point I needed to draft a QB and I love what I saw out of Bortles last season. He passed for 4,428 yards while throwing 35 TD passes in 2015. It just seemed this was the right time to get him.
2016 FFToolbox Mock Draft #2

8.02 Scout Fantasy - Jack Delaney - Being in a draft with other fantasy analysts, it’s pretty much guaranteed that you can wait on drafting a quarterback. With a healthy Julius Thomas, Allen Robinson, and Allen Hurns in the lineup, Bortles should tie or exceed his 35 touchdown passes from last season.
2016 FFToolbox Mock Draft #3
August 10th, 2016
9.07 Scout Fantasy - Armando Marsal - There's a lot to like about Bortles. Even if we see some regression, he should not have any issue finishing as a QB1.
