2015 Outlook: Over the Hill (decreased production)

Last updated on Jun-27-2015 by Shawn Childs

Over the past two years, there has been a lot of decline in White's game due to injuries. In his last 27 outings, Roddy has averaged only 11.4 yards per catch compared to 14.0 yards through his first eight seasons. I'd love to say White is poised for a bounce-back season, but the list of issues with him is growing. In 2014, Roddy struggled with an ankle issue for the second straight year and came down with knee and hamstring injuries as well. He'll turn 34 in November. He had five catches or more in 10 of his 14 games and two 100-yard performances. White has six 1,000-yard seasons and seven 80-catch campaigns to his credit. There's no doubt Roddy is going to get plenty of targets if he can stay healthy. His willingness to play through injuries is a positive. It wouldn't surprise me to see him post another year with 80 receptions, 1,000-plus yards and a solid amount of touchdowns. He has a WR2 opportunity for sure if his body holds up. His early ADP is 67, making him the 28th WR selected. His resume is long enough to where he could be a nice value pick if he is overlooked on draft day.

Jul-29-15 Falcons WR Roddy White had his knee drained this offseason and expects to again

Roddy White says he had his knee drained before minicamp opened and believes he'll have to get it drained again during the season. He prefers not to get surgery even though it has been suggested. The good news is that the procedure only costs him a few days of practice. "It's not a concern to me because it's just like a little irritation,'' White said. "My cartilage in my knee is not smooth. It's kind of rippled. You can elect to have surgery, but I just decided not to because I'm not a surgery guy. I just don't want to do it … They gave me the option two years ago to have surgery. They said they would have to slice off the top of my cartilage, and I was like, 'I don't want to do that.' I don't want them to keep shaving my cartilage off until there's no more cartilage. Then you start to get arthritis … If I get my knee drained on a Monday, I can practice on Wednesday. It's not an issue where I'm going to miss a game, because it's such a small issue. I'm not worried about it -- not at all.''

Fantasy Analysis:

This is what it is. White is an aging receiver dealing with issues aging receivers deal with. He'll turn 34 years old this season and is now clearly the No. 2 WR to Julio Jones. This does not mean White doesn't have value. He admits to not being himself last season thanks to injury and still caught 80 passes for 921 yards and seven TDs. The question is, will White be himself again. He is currently being drafted as the WR40. Putting up WR40 numbers is more than an obtainable goal for him.

4.09 Fantasy Taz - Another player people are really down on, not sure I follow that thinking. After years of being superhuman with no missed games, he finally got hurt and missed some time. He tried to come back from his injury too quickly in 2013, but even at the end of the season you could see White getting his legs back. I expect White to be a Top-12 WR again in 2014.
