2017 Outlook: Solid/Safe Pick

Last updated on Aug-19-2017 by Shawn Childs

Despite finishing with a nice season in New England (55/701/7 on 73 targets) with a better than expected opportunity with Rob Gronkowski missing almost ten games of playing time, Bennett left plenty of stats on the table due to ankle and shoulder issues. New England used him as a decoy/blocker for many of his last ten games of the season leading to eight games with short yards and chances (1/5, 4/35, 1/14, 3/22, 2/4, 2/35, 2/19/1, and 3/33/1) while seeing five targets of fewer in 12 of his 16 games played. Martellus did show explosiveness in four of his first nine starts (5/114/1, 5/109, 6/67/3, and 7/102) with three of those games coming with Gronk on the field. His catch rate (75.3) was elite with the Patriots, which supported by his play in Chicago (69.1, 70.3, and 66.3). Over his last 75 games, Bennett has 26 TDs. In 2016, the Packers completed 64 passes for 683 yards and three TDs on 101 targets to the TE position. Martellus should see 80 percent of the TE opportunity in this offense in 2017 while providing another solid option for TD for Rodgers. I expect the Packers to throw a few more balls to the TE giving Martellus a chance 70+ catches for 800+ yards with about seven TDs. Solid top 10 options at TE with a fair price point.
