2014 Outlook:

Last updated on Jun-24-2014 by Daniel Kalles

Chad Henne is coming off one of his best seasons of his six-year career, unfortunately that isn't saying much. Henne passed for 3,241 yards with 13 touchdowns and 14 interceptions; he did this while starting in 13 games. Henne is nothing more than a placeholder until the team feels ready to hand the reins to Bortles. Henne shouldn't seriously be considered for your fantasy rosters, no matter what format you play. There are much better options out there.

Latest Update

Oct-17-14 With Jaguars RB Toby Gerhart out, backfield to be full-fledged committee

Jacksonville head coach Gus Bradley confirmed Friday that RB Toby Gerhart will miss his second straight game on Sunday when the Jaguars face-off with the Cleveland Browns. With Gerhart out, Bradley said that their running game will be split between RBs Storm Johnson, Denard Robinson, and Jordan Todman.

Gerhart leads the team with 123 rushing yards, while averaging an anemic 2.6 yards per carry. Robinson and Johnson are both averaging a better-but-still-bad 3.4 yards per carry.

Fantasy Analysis:

Q: What's worse than a lead back who isn't very good?

A: A committee of backs who aren't very good either.

The Jags running game is simply the most unimpressive thing going in fantasy. They're averaging 69.5 yards per game. They've run for 417 yards in six games. 131 of those yards are from QBs Blake Bortles (106) and Chad Henne (25). That's 31.4 percent of their rushing yards coming from their pocket-passing QBs. In comparison, San Francisco's Colin Kaepernick, considered more of a running QB, only has 29 percent (242 of 814) of his team's rushing yards.

With that said, it's obvious you want to avoid this backfield. However, what the lack of an effective running game does for the Jags is gives the future of their offense, the passing game, an opportunity to evolve. Bortles and rookie WRs Allen Robinson, Allen Hurns, and Marqise Lee will continue to get opportunities to produce, along with veteran WR Cecil Shorts.

Robinson and Shorts, due to their consistent target-count and the fact the Jags play from behind a lot, are decent WR3/Flex options on a weekly basis.
